Story: The Bath And The Bucket Story

The story illustrates lateral thinking, narrow-mindedness, the risks of making assumptions, and judging people and situations:

A party of suppliers was being given a tour of a mental hospital. One of the visitors had made some very insulting remarks about the patients.

After the tour the visitors were introduced to various members of staff in the canteen. The rude visitor chatted to one of the security staff, Bill, a kindly and wise ex-policeman.

"Are they all crazy loonies in here then?" said the rude man.

"Only the ones who fail the test," said Bill.

"What's the test?" said the man.

"Well, we show them a bath full of water, a bucket, a jug and an egg-cup, and we ask them what's the quickest way to empty the bath," said Bill.

"Oh I see, simple - the normal ones know it's the bucket, right?" 

"No actually," said Bill, "The normal ones say pull out the plug. Should I check when there's a bed free for you?"

Story: Attitude

Once upon a time there was a bunch of tiny frogs who arranged a running competition. The goal was to reach the top of a very high tower. A big crowd had gathered around the tower to see the race and cheer on the contestants. ...

The race began. Honestly, no one in the crowd really believed that the tiny frogs would reach the top of the tower.

You heard statements such as:

"Oh, WAY too difficult!!" 

"They will NEVER make it to the top."

"Not a chance that they will succeed. The tower is too high!"

The tiny frogs began collapsing. One by one.... Except for those, who in a fresh tempo, were climbing higher and higher....

The crowd continued to yell, "It is too difficult!!! No one will make it!"

More tiny frogs got tired and gave up.... But ONE continued higher and higher and higher.... This one wouldn't give up!

At the end everyone else had given up climbing the tower. Except for the one tiny frog, who, after a big effort, was the only one who reached the top! THEN all of the other tiny frogs naturally wanted to know how this one frog managed to do it? A contestant asked the tiny frog how he had found the strength to succeed and reach the goal. 

It turned out.... That the winner was DEAF!!!!

Moral
Never listen to other people's tendencies to be negative or pessimistic.... because they take your most wonderful dreams and wishes away from you -- the ones you have in your heart!  Be DEAF when people tell YOU that you cannot fulfill your dreams! Always have a 'Can-Do' attitude!

Short Story : Luck Favors Those Who Help Themselves

A man brought a race horse and kept him in a barn with a big sign, “THE FASTEST HORSE IN THE WORLD.” The man did not exercise the horse nor trained it to keep it in good shape. 

Soon the race season began and in the race, the horse came last. The owner quickly changed the sign to “THE FASTEST WORLD FOR THE HORSE.” 

By not doing anything and waiting for things to happen, people fail and blame their luck

हृदय घात से बचाव का उपाय

जरा सोचिये की शाम के 7:25 बजे है और आप घर जा रहे है वो भी एकदम अकेले। ऐसे में अचानक से आपके सीने में तेज दर्द होता है जो
आपके हाथों से होता हुआ आपके जबड़ो तक पहुँच  जाता है।  आप अपने घर से सबसे नजदीक अस्पताल से 5 मील दूर है और दुर्भाग्यवश आपको ये नहीं समझ आ रहा की आप वहां  तक पहुँच पाएंगे की नहीं।

आप सीपीआर में प्रशिक्षित है मगर वहां भी आपको ये नहीं सिखाया गया की इसको
खुद पर प्रयोग कैसे करे। ऐसे में दिल के दौरे से बचने  के लिए ये उपाय आजमाए ;-

चूँकि ज्यादातर लोग दिल के  दौरे के वक्त अकेले होते है बिना किसी की मदद के उन्हें सांस लेने में तकलीफ होती है । वे बेहोश होने लगते है और उनके पास सिर्फ 10 सेकण्ड्स होते है । ऐसे हालत में पीड़ित जोर जोर  से खांस कर खुद को सामान्य रख सकता है। एक जोर की सांस लेनी चाहिए हर खांसी से पहले और खांसी इतनी तेज हो की छाती से थूक निकले।  जब तक मदद न आये ये प्रक्रिया दो सेकंड से दोहराई जाए ताकि धड्कन सामान्य हो जाए ।
जोर की साँसे फेफड़ो में ऑक्सीजन पैदा करती है और जोर की खांसी की  वजह  से दिल सिकुड़ता है जिस से रक्त सञ्चालन नियमित रूप से
चलता है ।

जहाँ तक ही सके इस तरीके को हरेक तक पहुंचाए या बताएं । एक ह्रदय के डॉक्टर ने तो यहाँ तक कहाँ कि अगर हर व्यक्ति यह सन्देश
10 लोगो को बताएं तो कम से कम एक जान
बचायी जा सकती है।
आप सबसे निवेदन है कि यह सन्देश सबको शेयर करे ताकि लोगो की जान बच सके।

The Greatest Man in History

Guru Gobind Singh Ji had no servants, yet they called him MASTER.

Had no degree, yet they called Him TEACHER.

Had no medicines, yet they called Him HEALER.

He won battles, he conquered the world. He committed no crime, yet they were after him.

He sacrificed his life, his sons, yet he lives today in our hearts.

Story: Sharpen Your Axe

A woodcutter Shyam worked for a company for 5 years but never got a raise.

The company hired Ram and within a year Ram got a raise. This irritated Shyam and he went to talk to his boss. The boss said “You are still cutting the same amount of wood as you did 5 years ago. We are a result-oriented company and would be happy to give you a raise if your productivity increases.” 

Shyam went back and started hitting harder and putting in extra working hours but was not able to cut more trees. He went back to his boss to talk to him. The boss told Shyam to go and talk to Ram. “Maybe there is something different that he does.” 

Shyam asked Ram how he managed to cut more trees. Ram answered, “After every tree I cut, I take a break for 2 minutes and sharpen my axe. When was the last time you sharpened your axe?”

Team work is the key

A woman in hot air balloon realized she is lost. She reduced altitude & shouted to a man below: Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend to meet him an hour ago but I don't know where I am.

Man below replied: You are in hot air balloon 30 feet above the ground. You are at 41 degree North latitude & 59 degree West longitude.

Lady: You must be an engineer.

Man: How do you know?

Lady: Everything you told me is technically correct but useless & the fact is I'm still lost.

Engineer: You must be in Top Management.

Lady: Ya. How do you know?

Engineer: You don't know where you are or where you're going. You made a promise, which you've no idea how to keep, & you expect people beneath you to solve your problems..!!

Lesson learnt -

1) No one alone is complete and cannot work to the fullest of the available resources and potential.

2) Any knowledge , however critical it may be, in isolation is useless.

3) Teamwork is the answer to most of human problems.

Since we are about to end the  Q3 F13-14 and entering into  Q4 F13-14  - it is time to fasten our seat belts as the toughest QTR is ahead of us and we have to roll out the Strategic Annual Planning cycle for the F14-15 (APC-F15) also duign first week of the Jan 2014. This shall essentially involve the Performance reviews of current fiscal ....

so keep coming back as we are going to share a lot on this ....

Starting with some knowledge bytes of  Strategic Planning will be shares to make people remind of  essentials and the modifications in this FY planning cycle.

Later  the planning details and other activities shall be covered for tthe benefit of everyone ...

Health & Safety is one of the critical factor as far as Human v/s workplace is concerned. Being a Lead auditor of ISO 14001 (Environment Management System) as well as OHSAS 18001 (Health & Safety Management System),  Vijay K Saini  keep on updating himself as well as the community around for the new and unknown know how in the Health & Safety Domain.

Since I am not the copyright owner of this manual so I can not give it for downloads  but making this available for viewing citing the proper owner information given above - for making the subject and know how worth it. Thanks Nigel for a nice piece of work.
